Background of Sabah Museum

Sabah Museum is the state museum of Sabah Malaysia. The complex contains not only the museum proper, but also an ethno botanic garden, a zoo and a heritage village. The main building also houses the Sabah Art gallery. Other galleries cover Islamic civilisation, Archaeology and History, Natural History, and Ceramics and Brassware. The mission of the museum is to collect, preserve, conserve and document ethnographic, archaeological, historical, numismatic, art-historical, botanical, zoological and mineralogical collections from throughout the state, and to conduct research on important and interesting aspects of Sabah’s history, culture, and  social and natural history.

History

The Sabah Museum was established in 1965 in a shophouse in Gaya Street, Kota Kinabalu, largely due to the efforts of the Sabah Society. The George Cathcart Woolley collection of artefact, bequeathed to the State Government of Sabah, formed the nucleus of the museum. The first Curator of museum was E.J Berwick. In 1981, it came under the Ministry of Community Services and then, in 1982, under the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports. It moved to its current location in 1984.

Week 1 & 2

- I have get acquainted with the rest of the students practical from UMS and UNI MAS. After that, me and a friend practical from UMS have been place at the same division, which is Exhibition. We have met with the staff of the exhibition and we are given introduction and example what we need to do. Second weeks, we were given a task. Such as crop pictures and do some banners and posters in conjunction with the "Golden Jubilee" Sabah Museum. In addition, we have seen the museum area to identify each venue. We are also given a list of the names of every head division including the director. We need to ask for signatures to get familiar to them.

Week 3 & 4

- This week, i was instructed to make Backdrop conjunction Hari Raya Open House and fix some museum certificate participants walkathon. I also be instructed to print a tag for participant walkathone. In addition, i also instructed to help prepare exhibition. Such as, Archaeological, Research, Education, Conservation & Ethnologist. On 25/7.2015 (Saturday) we were directed to go to work because at that time equal to the walkathon. On 27/7/2015 (Monday) the Council of Birthday Museum of Sabah to-50. Dtuk Seri Panglima Haji Musa bin Haji Aman, the Chirf Minister of the State Of sabah has been asked to officiate the ceremony. On that day i was worked as taking attendance. At the afternoon, i directed to print the certificate of the participant of our walkathon and choir rehearsal is to be held in conjunction with museum Open House day. On 30/7/2015 Hari Raya Open House and i was a welcome Guest.

Week 5 & 6
- I’ve created poster (Cemetery Pogunon) and make front page magazine. Next, I am directed to edit 9 pictures such as, Agnes Keith House Sabah Colonial Bungalow, Museum Warisan Sandakan, Batu Lumuyu Tenom, Bukit Tengkorak, Pusat Informasi Perkuburan Purba Pogunon Penampang, Sakaran Building, Tun Datu Mustapha Putatan dan Warisan Keningau. I also directed to go to the library to find traditional patterns Books which is kadazandusun, bajau, murut, and rungus. After that, I have to trace the patterns in AI.

Week 7, 8 and 9

- We are directed to go to the Suria Sabah Mall because Museum Sabah exhibitions in conjunction with Independence Day. The exhibition starting at 15.8.2015 (Saturday) – 21.8.2015 (Friday). Other than that, I have been directed to make caption and edit some pictures in conjunction with Women’s Day held on 4.9.2015 (Friday).

Week 10 and 11

- At 15.9.2015 (Tuesday), Museum Sabah has held exhibition in the Council of the Sabah Community for Malaysia Day. Other than that, I helped to make caption for the exhibition TYT. The exhibition is on 29.9.2015 (Tuesday). Then, i also instructed to make two of logo, first logo is Night at the Museum and the second logo is Fiesta Museum Sabah 2016.

Week 12, 13 and 14

- I have been directed to make seven streamers and one banner for the Se-Borneo exhibition beads held on 8.10.2015 (Thursday) and also help make caption and arranging beaded. Besides that, I am directed to make the certificate border.
